• Introduction to the School Community Council
  •  Members introduced themselves 
  • We discussed the recommended timeline.
  • Kaiann was assigned to review the required website information.
  • Layla Semanoff was elected chair (by the parents)
  • Kaitlyn Call was elected cochair (by the parents).
• Trustlands Plan
  • Discussed data regarding last year’s
  • This will be presented formally at our next meeting
  • We also discussed a school policy of no treats for birthday due to student health concerns at our school
  • A UDOT grant is available for Safe Schools Routes
    • We will look into this regarding possible sideways being built along 100 North to create a continuous safe path to our school.

• School Safety and Digital Citizenship Report - Clayton White:
  • Helpful toward education
    • -- training- digital responsibility: how to effectively use technology that is safe and not harmful (mental & physical)
  • Internet filtering: iBoss-- not full proof but does a great job
    • Generated from a National database, automatically updates
  • Additional management tools: GoGuardian allows teachers to monitor and alerts administration
  • Student Email Accounts: 
  • Social Media: the school board made a policy that they do not allow social media on the network
    • The team has debates with instagram rather than students getting around the network
    • Sometimes educational purposes, sometimes not…..
  • Mauri teachers digital safety and citizenship--- every single year through the library
  • (Q: from Laylah) Where does YouTube fall? We have a safe YouTube, some contents are blocked-- a safe youtube site that only shows what you are looking for. Free YouTube downloads.
• Trustlands/TSSA Plans Data and Budgets:
  • Funds went to: Mrs. Jex (successful for last year) and 80% proficiency in GoMath (met it)
  • This year still using funds to pay for Mrs. Jex and new math goal for 80% proficient in iReady assessment
  • Enough funds for 22.5 teachers-- used to add another third grade teacher
  • 50% of the budget remaining-- for salary. 
  • Trustlands:
    • Goal #1- met
    • Goal #2- did not meet the reading goal-- covid played a big role with younger grades not meeting goal
  • Current Goals: Plan was approved last spring- keeping the same goals as last time and breaks down the money 
  • ---Chrome books out of both plans? Yes! One was the touch screens and one was for the upper grades new cart. 
• Positive Behaviors Plan:
  • The state is requiring every school to have this year, to formally submit a plan. 
  • We need to teach behavior the same way we teach reading and math
    • 1. Behavior Boot Camp (1st week of school) Same person gave same information to all the students (at their different stations)
    • 2. Teach Social Skills: (Boys Town) teaches specific skills 
    • 3. Classroom Rules: This year, we have the same rules school wide
      • Consistent so that the same rules apply everywhere. 
      • Precision Request: giving students 3 chances to follow the rules
      • Discipline Flow Chart: gives more clarity for what teachers vs administrators handle
  • District wants these in place for classroom management:
    • 4. Follow the Big5
    • 5. Teacher vs administration behavior management
  • POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

  •  Missed the grant window (keep an eye on it for next-- sidewalk by fire station)
• Student Enrollment Update:
  • 650 students K-6
  • Not including preschoolers-- about 50 
  • We are slated to get a double wide portable for next year
• Desk Update:
  • Ordered desks in August-- got them last week, probably have about 20 extras

    • We are making great growth
    • Acadience is lower than the other 2
    • Goal: 85% proficiency 
    • 1st grade is making great progress this year

    • New assessment 
    • Data is confusing to parents-
      • Can April talk to teachers about data, so they can explain it to parents during PTC? (Peri)
• Budgets:

  • TSSA: General funds- $5,000 just added (haven’t been spent)

  • Trustlands: Para Pros ($17,000 left) 

• Hat's Off Award Information:

  • Award from the Cache Education Foundation- teachers/parents can nominate a teacher that has gone above and beyond– digital form (& posted on school website)

  • parent letters help a lot (detail)

• From Today:
  • We need to start planning next year's Trustland funds
  • Focused on the same type of goals, do we want to look at new goals??
  • Funding– chromebooks, a little bit at a time- provide more for 1st & 2nd
  • Parent sales: like black Friday (once they age out of our system) 
  • Numbers for next year? School capacity? (question from Kaitlyn)
  • Double-wide portable for 2 classes
  • Legislation? Full-day kindergarten– very interesting, the whole state will have to build classrooms- or sixth grade will move back to middle schools
  • Young families in the new homes north of the school

• Current Budget Review for TSSA/Trustlands Plan:
  • Attached Paper -  About $15,000, which is enough to finish out the school year.
    • Teacher Salary - used to get a full-time teacher (it probably will come out at the end)
    • Left to spend is about $5000 wellness/emotional centers, alternate seating
    • Doing pretty well!
    • Side note: Title One Funds - purchased iPad's/Pencils with Doceri
• Academic Needs for Next School Year
• Recommendations for TSSA Plan:
  • Math
    • April Martin: Talking about iReady
    • Hard to set goals for MOY
    • Focus on total growth of iReay measure (50% or more)
    • Birch Creek teachers like the idea of a growth goal - on their way to meeting an expected goal Trudy will meet with teachers and come up with a percentage, then next meeting we will vote on it and decide which plan to put it in.
  • Reading
    • The past few years, we have been focused on Acadience Reading
    • Grade Level teachers met and wondered if we could do HMH goals
    • What group do you want to see the most change in?
    • Measurement goal with "below-level"
    • Acadience goal for K, 1, 2???
    • Focus on 3-6??
    • Kathy - goals should be what is going to work best for our students.
    • Holly Harris & Trudy thought: Below level percent from BOY to MOY would decrease by 20%
  • Technology
    • 2 or 3 Chromebook labs expiring soon
    • We have about 15.5 labs
    • One cart is about $13,000
    • $80,000 from TrustLands technology & Para Pros
  • TSSA: helps pay counselor salary
  • The district pays for any growth a year later...
  • Kaiann will come to the next meeting with lab numbers.

  • The final report was submitted on the website but shared at our first meeting.

• Areas of Concern with Child Access Routing Plan:
  • How do kids get to school?
  • Do we need to add different safety features on the west side?
  • Sidewalk by fire station?
  • Solicit through UDOT
    • With growth... It's necessary now.
    • Crossing guard on 300? city-parent volunteers?

• Trustland Plan Approval:
  • Handout with Goals
    • Decreasing the percentages of below level by 20% with HMH Growth, CTE, LA, Library/Media
    • Action Steps: broken down by the different things we will do, tagged to money
    • $31,000 is about the cost of two aides
    • Programs we use
    • Other practices we use... Ties in with RC programs & Starfall, Follett ($5000)
    • Chromebooks... we need about 130 Chromebooks and 2 carts
  • Distribution is on the handout agenda.
    • Kaiann is wondering about Chromebook carts that hold the cords better moving forward.
    • We may need to adjust the plan by a couple hundred dollars.
  • Vote: All - Yes
  • Trudy will send out an electronic signature that we will need to sign.
• Draft of TSSA:
  • There's nothing formal because we are waiting on the district.
  • Goals:
    • Work to meet the behavior/emotional needs of the students by extending our 1/2 time counselor's position to full time.
      • Help pay for the counselor and calm down corner resources.
    • Math Goal: Median progress towards typical growth will be 50% (or higher) at the MOY iReady Diagnostic Assessment.
      • MyPath Licences - $7000
      • PLC Conference in October (6 faculty to go down - 2 days, hotel cost, mileage, etc.)
      • Tier 2 Math Instruction Aides 1/2 hour.
• Discussion Regarding School Safety Crosswalks, etc.:

  • Smithfield City Mayor - Kris Monson (Hoping to have her here).

  • Looking into school safety crosswalks
  • Checking in with UDOT
  • Construction of Temple - Scott Perkes doesn't know any logistics about traffic flow for construction.
    • We will start seeing movement to get ready anytime for groundbreaking in June (18th?)
• Other:
  • Proctors - We need 2 for Rise Testing that is coming up on April 18th through the last week of May.
    • Not everyday
    • Less than 4 hours a day... maybe 5 hours for 5th grade
    • Looking for paid volunteers
    • About $12/hour

• Update on Walking Routes:

  • ​​​​​​​Mayor Monson says that the city will re-stripe the crosswalk at the intersection by the white fence.

  • The chunk of sidewalk by the fire department is problematic, because whenever you do sidewalks by train tracks it takes an "act of God."
  • Anticipate the need for better traffic near the temple.
  • Possibly a sidewalk all the way to the temple.
• Review Data for 2021-22:
  • Goal of 80% proficiency on Spring EOY GoMath test
    • Overall we were 90% or higher (current data)
  • Goal of 85% proficiency in K-4 grades for reading (Acadience Test)
    • Kindergarten: 58% (+4%)
    • 1st Grade: 69% (+26%)
    • 2nd Grade: 71% (-6%)
    • 3rd Grade: 84% (+5%)
    • 4th Grade: 84% (no change)
  • Reading Composite scores measure differently.
  • Goal of 80% HMH for 5-6 grades
    • 5th Grade: 97%
    • 6th Grade: 90%
• Other:

  • Tri-School Golf Tournament: $7500

    • Plan to do more updates with the security system.

  • School hours go back to normal next year
